Initiatives for Marieb College of Nursing

Scholarships for high-need students

The college seeks to attract more students from diverse backgrounds into the nursing profession. Donor support for scholarships at all levels will reduce the debt burden students carry and position them for enduring success.

Comprehensive student mentoring program

This program, open to undergraduates, including non-traditional and second-degrees students, will give aspiring nurses the guidance they need to provide culturally proficient care and forge successful career pathways in nursing.

Faculty support

Donor investment in faculty positions, research funding, and graduate student support will ensure that the college remains competitive in attracting the top teachers and scholars amid a longstanding nursing faculty shortage.

Clinical simulation laboratory

Donor investment will enable the college to expand and re-imagine this critical component of clinical preparation, from maintaining and upgrading equipment to exploring virtual reality learning technology.

Community-based care and public health promotion

The college seeks to expand student training in these areas and support student-faculty teams in pilot or proof-of-concept studies that explore new technologies, approaches, and models of care.

“Too often, our patients don’t see themselves in the people taking care of them. UMass Amherst will be a leader in changing that. ”
