22 University of Massachusetts Hockey Student-Athletes Earn Hockey East All-Academic Nods
AMESBURY, Mass. – Twenty-two University of Massachusetts hockey student-athletes have earned spots on the Hockey East 2023-24 Men's All-Academic Team, the league announced on Tuesday. The Minutemen were among a record 204 student-athletes across Hockey East that achieved a grade point average of 3.0 or better in each academic period during which they were actively competing.
Additionally, four individuals from UMass were among 17 players who earned the prestigious honor of being named Hockey East's Top Scholar-Athlete, compiling the highest GPA at their position for the season. These four, defensemen Aaron Bohlinger and Samuli Niinisaari and forwards Michael Cameronand Christian Sanda, have been selected to the 2023-24 Hockey East Academic All-Star Team as well.
Seniors Linden Alger and Bohlinger achieved "Distinguished Scholar" status, having qualified for the All-Academic team all four years of their careers at UMass. Junior Ryan Ufko earned his third recognition of his career.
The Minutemen had nine second time honorees: Cameron, Kenny Connors, Ryan Lautenbach, Taylor Makar, Elliott McDermott, Lucas Mercuri, Scott Morrow, Owen Murray, Kennedy O'Connor.
Cole Brady, Bo Cosman, Liam Gorman, Michael Hrabal, Jackson Irving, Ninnisaari, Cameron O'Neill, Sanda, Aydar Suniev and Sebastian Tornqvist all reached All-Academic status for the first time in their careers.
