Ways to Give

Make a Difference Today

Your gift can shape the future of UMass students and programs. Donate online, by mail, or explore other giving options to support what matters most to you.

Supporting UMass Amherst is easy, and your gift matters more than ever.

The university has partnered with the UMass Amherst Foundation (UMAF), a non-profit organization (EIN 54-2084125) that helps to match caring people with meaningful opportunities that support both UMass Amherst’s mission and the personal objectives of our donors. UMAF receives and processes all gifts supporting the state’s flagship campus.*

Gift Planning and Estate Gifts

A planned gift is one of several strategies to provide a gift supporting UMass Amherst from your estate. It allows you to maintain ownership and control of all of your assets during your lifetime. Planned gifts can provide a dollar-for-dollar charitable tax deduction for your estate. Some planned gifts provide a guaranteed lifetime income stream and an immediate income tax deduction. Planned giving strategies can maximize a gift's value and minimize estate and gift taxes.

Some of the most popular planned giving methods include:
  • A bequest from your Last Will & Testament or Living Trust
  • A beneficiary-controlled distribution from an IRA, 401(k), 403(b) or TOD designation
  • A beneficiary designation on a life insurance policy
  • A Charitable Gift Annuity, which provides an income stream for life as well as an immediate charitable income tax deduction

To learn more, visit the Gift Planning website or contact Joe Jayne, executive director of Gift Planning, at jjayne@uma-foundation.org.

*The UMass Amherst Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization, is the legal entity through which donors financially support UMass Amherst. For decades, UMass and the UMass Amherst Foundation have assessed a one-time administrative fee on charitable gifts. The purpose of this fee is to provide essential support necessary for operations. The fee is currently 3 percent per gift received.
